Elena Penna & Luca Currado Vietti
Cascina Penna-Currado is the new, personal winemaking project of Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti, which reveals the family’s deep roots and historic rapport with the area of the Langhe. The winery in Serralunga d’Alba is a historic and recently restored ‘cascina’ (farm house), built in 1554 and today UNESCO heritage listed. The vineyards Luca and Elena have selected reflect their desire to make traditional yet elegant styles, in a time of changing climate. The location is San Sebastiano, just outside the Barolo DOCG, closer to the Alps, rich in biodiversity and the higher altitude and proximity to a small lake keep conditions more temperate. Their production of a Timorasso from Derthona reflects Elena’s passion for and belief in this variety and its ageing potential. In late 2024, they were joined by son Michele, and in due course this family project will be complete with daughter Giulia. Luca and Elena made their first Barolo wines in 2023, so look out for those releases in 2027.
