Vinification
Fruit comes from our Wilyabrup and Yallingup vineyards. The fruit was
destemmed into a static fermenter and inoculated immediately with a
Bordeaux yeast strain. Fermentation occurred on skins to dryness and the
wine was pressed after ten days. Following malolactic fermentation, the
wine was racked to French oak barriques and matured for ten months.

Vintage Notes
After a relatively cold and long winter with solid rainfall, the growing
season had a late start, resulting in later than average budburst. Cool, wet
weather extended into early spring however, most varieties experienced
excellent fruit set and yields were well established.
Mild and dry conditions continued into the beginning of the red harvest
and the early ripening reds were picked in excellent condition, despite the
delayed vintage. Some minor rain fell in early April, but it was followed
by ideal autumnal weather. This allowed Merlot an extended ripening
period to mature tannins and develop flavor just in time for the unwritten
rule of picking before ANZAC Day. A significant rain event occurred on
the 23rd/24th of April, but fortunately, all fruit had been picked and was
safely in the winery.
One significant challenge throughout the harvest was the complete lack of
Marri blossom, which resulted in heavy bird pressure in the vineyards,
making netting essential.
