Diatom was launched in 2005 as a project which explores chardonnay in the most skeletal manner possible. Named for the fossilized plankton (diatomaceous earth), which is replete in Santa Barbara County. The wines are strictly made from chardonnay and resemble the soils, with a precise, clean approach to winemaking: cold stainless fermentation, no malolactic and the use of old vine material set the wines apart. Diatom’s pursuit is the ultimate in purity of chardonnay expression: deliberate, certain and true. A singular focus: always 100% stainless-steel fermented chardonnay.
