Tasting Notes

Aroma

The 2020 Trueman expresses cassis, rose hips, mint and Asian spice on the nose.

Palate

Wonderful concentration of flavour, retention of natural acidity and brightness of fruit, delivering a wine with beautiful finesse and balanced tannins. Dark cherry, cedar, slight toast, and silky tannins on the palate.

Vinification

Hand-picked, destemmed, whole berry sorted and gently crushed to open top fermenters. Cold soaked, pumped over daily with a minimum of 21 days on skins. Basket pressed with light pressings included in free run directly to 50% new and used French oak barriques. Bottled November 2021.

Cellaring Potential

2022-2032

Vintage Notes

The growing season was affected by a very hot spring, leading to the lowest yields on our record. When the grapes started their ripening process in January, the weather miraculously cooled to a very mild ripening season.

Fragrant and expressive, offering mocha-laced maraschino cherry, framboise and raspberry flavors, with details of dried sage and tobacco on a plush, velvety frame. Delivers wonderful presence and harmony on the finish, where the tannins provide appealing traction. Drink now through 2033. Points: 93/100

It's an impressive merlot for its heady fragrance - a hint of cassis, florals, dried herbs and cedary oak - to its exceptionally silky, fuller-bodied palate. It builds flavour, the tannins sitting pretty and the finish as long as tomorrow. Makes you fall for merlot big time. (Jane Faulkner) Points: 95/100
