Aged for 15 months in fine-grain Bordeaux coopered barrels of which 50% were new.
Palate
This Cabernet Franc expresses true varietal characteristics such as black tea and rich raspberry with a touch of bay leaf. The mid-palate is dense yet delicate and the finish features fine velvety tannins.
Vinification
Hand-picked, destemmed and whole berry sorted before being gently crushed. Following cold soak, native fermentation ensued leading to 15 days on the skins with daily pump overs. The must was basket pressed with light pressings included in the free run and drained directly to barrel.
Cellaring Potential
A showstopper now, one can only imagine the cellaring potential.
Range Notes
Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard covers a steep cut of country from the ridgetops above the village of Clarendon to the Onkaparinga River in the gorge below. Since its establishment in 1971, the Hickinbotham Vineyard has become a part of Australias wine heritage, supplying fruit to produce many of Australias greatest wines. Breathing new life into this historic vineyard, winemakers Chris Carpenter and Peter Fraser are forging a new era of Hickinbothams prestigious legacy: building upon and honouring the vineyards acclaimed pedigree.
Vintage Notes
2018 was an archetypal growing season with consistent winter rains and favorable weather conditions throughout a mild spring. A dry summer led to earlier than expected picking dates and smaller yields. With the arrival of autumn, cool temperatures elongated the growing season producing grapes with concentrated flavours and balanced acidity. Although only The Nests second vintage, the 2018 is utterly stunning.
