Lark Hill Dark Horse Vineyard Sangiovese 2022

Quite light on the colour front. Savoury and herbaceous opening with tart fruit. Wild strawberries, cranberries, red currants, briar rose. Very light mouthfeel, gently bitter and mineral finish. It’s a curio expression of a Sangiovese with Alpine herbs, fresh button mushrooms, graphite tones, a bit of woody barky stuff, salty-seaweed type of umami. Truly savoury. Very good but missing a bit more push on the finish line. Points: 91/100

This shows off the enticing aromas of the variety to great effect: dark cherries and pips, amaro and bitter Italian herbs and more. Buoyant and lighter framed with lots of refreshing acidity and just when you think the tannins are missing – bang! They strut along the palate adding a pleasing sandy, raw-silk character. Points: 92/100
