Aroma
Lifted aromas of lemon curd, white nectarine and struck match, with hints of flint and almond
skin.
Maturation
The wine was matured for 12 months on solids.
Palate
The palate is taut and mineral-driven, showing grapefruit pith, green melon and subtle
oak spice. Lees ageing contributes chalky texture and savoury detail, while brisk acidity
carries the wine through a long, composed finish. A cool-climate Chardonnay with clarity,
restraint and the potential to evolve gracefully in bottle.
Vinification
These vines were planted in in 1980 - some of the oldest Chardonnay in our region.
The juice was gently pressed to french oak barrels - a mix of new, 1st and 2nd fill to give around 30% new oak. Indigenous yeasts completed fermentation in around 21 days.
Vintage Notes
2022 was a cool and wet vintage across the Canberra District, though
less extreme than the bookending years of 2021 and 2023. Regular
Spring rainfall and a mild Summer supported steady canopy growth,
with pockets of disease pressure requiring active management. A dry
spell in late Autumn allowed for clean, selective harvesting.
Chardonnay from this season shows subtle flavour development, bright
natural acidity and restrained alcohol, resulting in wines that are
elegant, tightly structured and quietly expressive.
Food Matching
Roast poultry, gnocchi with sage butter, pan seared barramundi.
