Tasting Notes

Palate

Riesling from this block ripens slowly, producing intense and balanced fruit, perfect for making delicious dessert wines. These wines display citrus notes, luscious sweetness and lively acidity.

Vinification

Our vineyards are managed using Biodynamic principles for sustainability and to best express their unique terroirs. In the winery, we seek to translate the balance and vibrance of the fruit to the wines - using minimal intervention winemaking techniques to ensure that the wine reflects the geology, climate and location of our vineyard, in a true preservation of Terroir. Under Biodynamic certification, we use a maximum of 20ppm (parts-per- million) of free Sulphur (preservative) at bottling - a low dose that may reduce Sulphur reactions, and still ensures our wines will cellar impeccably for years to come.

Region Notes

Lark Hill is a cold vineyard and at 860m elevation, is one of the highest plantings in the Canberra District. The soils are shallow depleted shale over clay, and vineyard receives ~600mm of rainfall annually.

Late picked, and not (obviously) botrytis affected, the sweetness achieved by stopping the fermentation at the 'Kabinett' level, as per in the Mosel Valley. Juicy and ripe, and at home best served as an aperitif, or with a cake or fresh fruit dessert. Points: 92/100

Very reserved, quiet aroma, suggesting talc, toast, earth and broken rock; the palate shows a lot of sweetness, at least semi-sweet, much more than half-dry, and super-fruity throughout. Points: 90/100

At first, this seemed shut down and did not want to come out to play – barely a whiff of anything other than toastiness and a touch of TDN (the flavour compound responsible for kerosene-like notes). Give it time. It does open up to reveal a citrus theme from lemon marmalade, lemon drops and lime sugar syrup. It’s a late-harvest style with the sweetness reined in by bracingly fresh acidity. It works a treat with cheese. 375ml bottle. Points: 91/100
