Tasting Notes

Aroma

Shows lifted aromatics marked by Veeder floral notes.

Maturation

22 months in 100% French oak, 94% new.

Palate

On the palate, it is evocative of Asian spice and blue fruit, with post-rain minerality. This wine is elegant with a backbone of tannin that goes on forever.

Vinification

Hand-harvested from low yields and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Region Notes

Bathed in sunlight on the western ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains at the northern end of the Mount Veeder appellation, the Veeder Peak estate vineyard sits at 1,800 feet in elevation. Since 1995, Lokoya has produced a Cabernet Sauvignon from a selection of blocks situated on the steep, mountainous terrain. Struggling in this volcanic soil forces the vines to seek out nutrients and in turn produce berries with intensely concentrated fruit.

Blackberries, herbs, green pine needles, blackcurrants and lead pencil. Full-bodied with incredible structure and powerful tannins. It goes on for minutes. The structure is something else. Muscular, but the tannins give form and focus to the beautiful fruit. Mountain-grown Latour! Extraordinary. Try after 2026. Points: 100/100

There is a palpably regal quality to all four Lokoya wines, but the Mount Veeder Cabernet attains an additional level of purity and class. There is a softness to the nose that is only additive, taking nothing away from the muscular, firm core underneath. The finish is granular, burly and seemingly endless. Reacts instantly to air, and is very much a moving target. An objective, definitive example of Mount Veeder Cabernet. Points: 97/100
