Tasting Notes

Maturation

Oak maturation was carried out in 100% new tight grain French oak barriques for a total 24 months.

Vinification

The parcels were vinified separately in small closed static fermenters with the optimum blend being carried out post malolactic fermentation.

Range Notes

Mountadam Vineyards High Eden range is the selection of the best parcels of fruit from the Estate. The Red has traditionally been a blend of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Shiraz fruit from the Estate.

Vintage Notes

A significant rain event in January provided good soil moisture for the end of the ripening period. Even temperatures post-veraison provided perfect ripening weather.

From the Mountadam High Eden vineyard at 550m elevation, a selection of the best fruit of the estate. 67/33% cabernet sauvignon/merlot, fermented and matured in 100% new French oak barriques. An edgy vintage for cabernet and merlot at this altitude. Here is a blend in which leafy, herbal spice, sappy tannins and sour acidity collide with biscuity oak and firm tannins. It screams out for time to pull itself together, but will never attain the heights of the great seasons. Points: 90/100
