Tasting Notes

Aroma

Ripe and complex, displaying aromas of citrus peel, yellow plum, Almond meal, white florals and an intriguing suggestion of candle smoke.

Palate

The 2024 Nanny Goat Vineyard Chardonnay greets the palate with a pleasing array of citrus and fresh stone fruits, laced with nuances of warmed pastries and sweet baking spice. A fine line of acidity brings balance and freshness to the mid palate, carrying the core citrus notes towards a finish that lingers on the palate long after the last sip.

Vinification

Handpicked and whole bunch pressed into stainless steel tanks for a brief period of settling before being roughly racked into 500L French oak puncheons (17.5% New) maintaining a higher juice turbidity and enhancing interest on the nose. Fermentation initially occurred naturally in barrel before the addition of a commercial yeast strain to ensure the fermentation reached dryness. Malo-Lactic fermentation took place naturally over the course of 10 months while the wine sat in barrel on lees with occasional stirring to build palate weight and texture.

Cellaring Potential

5+ years.

Food Matching

Sage and Dijon crusted pork fillet.

Oatmeal, white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits with some gentle hazelnut oak, nougat, crushed stone, white flowers, almond paste and minerals. A subtle slide of glutamic umami on the palate, with nicely poised fruit, a bright mineral cadence and a long stretch of pure stone fruit and spice on the finish. Points: 93/100

Pretty aromas of lime blossom, lemon zest and crisp apple rise above a nest of saline, smoky complexity with subtle stony minerality. The palate displays a more generous style with sweeter notes of cinnamon, vanilla pod and nectarine against the backdrop of chalky and zingy acidity. This could go either way, but the tight structure is what persists through to the finish, so it is likely to shed the puppy fat in the next few years. Drink now for the vanilla and rounded fruit, or wait for a nuttier, more defined expression. Points: 91/100

Canned, tropical fruit. Very ripe. Open mid palate. Simple and ripe.

Nose initially hints at red apple and fruit sherbet freshness, moves neatly to cashew nut, lanolin and stonefruits. Bright, inviting palate, stonefruits and citrus lead the charge, backed by sherbet and nuttiness. A hint of fatness to the texture yet remains light on its feet, developing a hint of spiced cream on the close. Drinking so well off the bat, a wee belter.
