Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aromas of sour cherry, cranberry and strawberries.

Palate

The palate is crunchy and vibrant with lovely structure and tannins.

Vinification

All the components of this wine were fermented separately and blended together prior to bottling. The wine was matured in old puncheons with no new oak.

Range Notes

Inspired by the Australian Burgundies of the 50s 60s and 70s. The Light Dry Red pays homage to the Classic light bodied Shiraz and Shiraz/ Pinot blends mastered by Maurice OShea.

Winemakers Comments

Up until as late as the 1980s Australian red wines were often named as Clarets or Burgundies broadly based on their style and the varieties they were made from. Whilst the nomenclature was incorrect the concept of blending varieties to craft a particular style of wine was brilliant and celebrated. With both the Gundagai medium dry red and the Gundagai light dry red I pay homage to our rich Australian winemaking history and these unique styles of wine. The Gundagai light dry red is a blend of Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Shiraz.

A floral and sweetly perfumed nose with attractive red-cherry and raspberry fruit fragrance. Nice purity. Freshness underpins the palate with such bright, supple red-fruit flavors in play. Succulent finish. Drink now. Points: 91/100

It is bright and crunchy, fresh and red fruited, dusted with spice, a little meaty, delicious and vibrant and pure. Vivacious red wine but with structure and tension, energy and deliciousness in spades. Nuff said, so worthy. Points: 92/100
