Tasting Notes

Aroma

Blackberries, dark cherry and plum skin aromas, fragrantly supported by baking spices, star anise, black olive, and dark chocolate.

Appearance

Deep garnet with a youthful violet hue.

Palate

A medium bodied plush wine, but still fresh and distinctive with the power and concentration of refined primary fruits. A core of blackberry and plum, with fantastic lively & textural tannins, supporting the fruit, right through to the finish.

Vinification

The 2022 Shiraz is from a number of small blocks in central and western ridge of Barossa Valley. The fruit was machine picked with a Selective harvester and crushed into small open fermenters and remained on skins for two weeks. The wine was then matured in seasoned French oak barriques and hogsheads for 12 months before bottling in June 2024.

Food Matching

Well suited to a rare roasted saddle of venison or try with a premium cut of rare dry- aged beef. Also compliments a good vintage cheddar.

Region Notes

Sourced from two small blocks across the central and western ridge of Barossa Valley. Shiraz from the Barossa Valley has long been held in high regards as one of Australia’s premier producing regions. Its 19th Century origins and early European settlers, particularly of German and Silesian descent have created a rich history in Australian wine.

Medium depth of colour, perhaps showing some early development. Meaty, tar and creosote aromas, some black pepper and char oak; in the mouth medium body at most, lovely fine texture and an elegant profile with sweet fruit at the core and a clean follow-through. Very good drinkability. Points: 91/100

Bright magenta/purple with aromas of juicy satsuma plum, blackberry and blueberry fruits with hints of spice rack, rosemary, roasting meats, dark-chocolate-dipped cherries, licorice and tapenade. There's a succulence to the pure plum and berry fruits on the palate that is really appealing. Finishes smooth with fine tannin grip and bright, saline acidity. Points: 92/100

It's opulent and complex, showing blackberry, mixed spice, smoked game and toasty oak characters, which lead to a richly flavoursome palate that's filled with juicy fruit intensity, backed by layers of grainy tannins, making it robust and sturdy. At its best: now to 2037.  Points: 94/100

This is a punchy and slightly more robust shiraz compared to the McLaren Vale wine from the same vintage. Concentrated plummy dark chocolate characters supported with a liberal amount of oak and fine firmish tannins. But it is smooth and almost velvety such is the palate balance that tends to conceal its power and concentration. Points: 93/100
