Range Notes

In chess, El Desperado is a doomed pawn that seems determined to give itself up to bring about a stalemate when captured, a pawn that is as good as dead and so sets out to do as much damage as possible.

Winemakers Comments

For me, wine growing is also a life long opportunity to indulge, close-up, my fascination with the wonderful complexity of Old World grape varieties, planted in the Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek in some of the oldest soils in the world. Likewise, my winemaking is about a return from modern, large-scale methods to classic, hands-on viticulture and oenology: traditional production methods, the careful use of indigenous wild yeast fermentations, minimal intervention and fine European oak barriques for aging. I hope you will enjoy.

This was made with tempranillo and sangiovese. It's a pale rosé with red licorice, watermelon, rose petal and strawberry flavours rushing throughout. It's an energetic wine, fresh-faced and mouthwatering. It's nicely done. Points: 90/100

  • A super Rosé and an epic bargain...

These El Desperado labels were made using AI. The detail is captivating I must say. The label on this Rosé depicts a warm summer's sunset and that is precisely when you should drink this. Made with Tempranillo and Sangiovese, it is a riot of white cherries, strawberries and red currants. Red apple skin comes late with a little lemony zip and a flash of dried herb, but the dry presence and the moreishness that it delivers is worth running after. A super Rosé and an epic bargain for $20. Points: 93/100

A most appealing Rosé made from Langhorne Creek Tempranillo and Sangiovese. It’s light, fragrant and with a nice savoury finish. Aromas of wild cherry and Turkish delight plus a crunchy watermelon and pomegranate capture key elements of these varieties. There is a small contribution of a portion that was wild fermented in oak before being back blended adds the key food friendly textural element. Excellent. Points: 93/100
