Tasting Notes

Aroma

A beautiful perfume lifts the hairs of your nose, dark plum, chocolate, cassis, salted fig, warm nougat, dried herbs, with notes of smoked meats.

Maturation

12 months in 1-6 year old French oak, puncheon and hogheads.

Appearance

Very deep concentrated black on black.

Palate

The palate is thick, concentrated and coating. This hits all the flavour receptors on your tongue; it is more soft and caressing than an all-out attack. Here the acid saves the day with a lovely saline edge, leaving your mouth puckering and craving more. The tannins here have an extra dimension, this is classic and classy Eden Valley. This shows off that mineral structure that can only come from a great site.

Vinification

De-stemmed and crushed, fermented in stainless. Time on skins 10 days, pumped over 2-3 times a day. Free run and pressings were combined into tank then racked off gross lees into oak where malolactic fermentation occurred. Bottled with minimal fining and without filtration.

Cellaring Potential

Up to 15 years.

From 16yo vines at 483m elevation. Medium purple red. The classic spice of Eden Valley accents black and red berries, harmoniously supported by even acidity, medium-grained tannins and dark chocolate oak. Full ripeness furnishes a warm finish of medium persistence. Points: 91/100

Pretty wine with heft and depth. Lots of blue fruits in perfume, sweet herb, violets and sweet spice. Supple texture that finishes in a neat, light and fresh point. More of the blueberry/mulberry fruit, quite a decent lash of cedary-vanilla-cinnamon woody spice laid on. It rolls round and long with its big fruit and spice character. Not quite in the pitch perfect balance zone of other 2019 Two Hands Single Vineyard wines, but representative and pleasurable. Points: 93/100
