Andrew Graham
Yangarra’s take on a Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc. 50% Grenache Blanc, 17% Grenache Gris. 17% Roussanne, 7% Clairette, 3% Bourboulenc, all matured in concrete egg with a variety of macerations. After the punch of the Roux, this felt more contained. Medium-bodied and a bit moody. Lemon and lemon balm with a long, waxy lemon palate has all sorts of nuances – there’s a leesy oatmeal edge and orange/grapefruit pithiness, then this sweet and sour pithiness and a tang. Crisp, finely textured, complex, if not strictly well defined – it doesn’t sing a place or a grape, I admire this wine’s lemony intensity and many layers, even if it is a bit hard to pin down. Points: 93/100
