Tasting Notes

Aroma

Intense and vibrant fruit character aromatics mingle with citrus and spice.

Appearance

A textural edge provides a food friendly aspect, and cinnamon and nutmeg spice complement the nashi pear and stone fruit flavours.

Palate

A textural edge provides a food friendly aspect, and cinnamon and nutmeg spice complement the nashi pear and stone fruit flavours.

Vinification

The fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. 60% of the juice was fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness and varietal character with the balance being fermented in one new Austrian oak hogshead and seasoned French oak barriques. A slow and cool ferment occurred and once complete the wine remained on its full lees with battonage until bottling in December 2024.

Cellaring Potential

Ready to drink now but will cellar well over the next 5 to 8 years.

Food Matching

Bouillabaisse matches the body and spicy notes of this wine. Comté will not overwhelm the wine and the spice characters of the wine add complexity to the match.

Winemakers Comments

Fruit from a single vineyard near Kangarilla in McLaren Vale is hand-picked and whole bunch pressed to create a wine of purity, freshness, and elegance. Vibrant acidity provides potential for the wine to cellar well over the medium term.

From the Yangarra vineyard, whole-bunch pressed, with 60% fermented in steel, and the balance in neutral and third-fill French oak barriques and a new Stockinger hogshead. Poached apple, Packham pear, fresh ginger, custard apple, melon, quince, unripe nectarine, a little brown spice. It's open and textural, marshalled by the oak component and fine phenolics to give this a dryly invigorating finish. Points: 94/100

As a leader among the first Australian producers to embrace Grenache Blanc, Rob Mack captures textural muscle in the complex mid-palate, giving a roiling mouthfeel to the long, luscious flavours. Pithy citrus notes signal a long, clean acid line that supports lively fruit notes of fresh pear over Fuji apple, all through to a finish that tingles gentle spice. More complex than you’d suspect, and likely to develop nicely from mid-term cellaring. Points: 92/100

A blend of Blewitt Springs and Clarendon Grenache. I like the word ‘confluence’. It puts me in mind of school and geography, but also, the last part of the word ‘fluence’ was used by my Mum as in ‘That person is putting the fluence on you!’ It’s not something you hear much. AI provided a surprisingly good definition – “Putting the fluence on someone” is a British English idiom that means to exert a subtle, often mystical, influence over a person. It suggests a manipulation or charm that can be difficult to resist. Reviews of The Fluence can be found HERE. It has a fine track record. Raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate, a steely/ozone top note, some dried flower perfume. It’s medium-bodied, strawberry and raspberry, a little youthful jubey character, light grip of pumice stone tannin, a crispness to acidity, some orange peel bite, with a bright finish of good length. Nice. 92+ Points: 92/100
