Spicy and lively, this lean wine shows more sprightly vigour than expected from an Australian Shiraz. Sweet bright red fruit leads the dance, with raspberry notes atop energetic blackcurrant and a lick of liquorice that moves gracefully inside a large framework, instilled by 25% new French oak barrels used for maturation and gnashing fine-grained tannins. A feisty wine, it has pert spiciness in the tail, and remains light on its feet. Incredibly, this is the final vintage of Shiraz that Aphelion has made, instead choosing to focus on other varieties.
