Tasting Notes

Aroma

The nose is fresh and zesty, with lemon, grapefruit, green apple, and juicy pear layered over subtle floral notes like acacia and white blossom.

Appearance

Light gold with a touch of green.

Palate

On the palate, it’s crisp and energetic, bursting with citrus and orchard fruit, backed by a clean, mineral edge. Bright acidity gives it a refreshing lift, while a smooth, rounded texture keeps it balanced and easy to enjoy. This is a vibrant, versatile wine that works beautifully for everything from casual sipping to food pairings.

Vinification

Grapes are machine-harvested at peak ripeness, with the ideal balance of sugar and acidity confirmed through multiple ripeness checks. They’re quickly transported to the winery and gently pressed using pneumatic presses. The juice then flows naturally into settling tanks, where it’s sulphured, cooled to 12°C, and treated with enzymes to kickstart clarification. After 12 to 24 hours of settling, the clear juice is racked off the solids, inoculated with selected dry yeast, and fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 16°C and 20°C to preserve aromatics and freshness. Once fermentation wraps up, the wine is racked again and typically undergoes malolactic fermentation— depending on the wine’s acidity—to soften the texture and add complexity. After malolactic fermentation, it’s racked and lightly sulphured.

Food Matching

Perfect with oysters, white fish, scallops, roast chicken or turkey, creamy pasta dishes or risottos and with goat cheese or mild brie.

A delicious everyday wine for those seeking flavour and the sort of plump, nicely chewy texture that Burgundy’s southern extremities do so well. Hints of mirabelle, apricot pith and curd, with a dollop of oak well nestled into the fray. Yet despite a sense of richness, a skein of chalky acidity and calcareous verve confer some pulse. I like this. Quality wine, presumably at a friendly price. Savoury, versatile and highly attractive. Points: 90/100

Weight, shape and balance get you in the mood with this Chardonnay from southern Burgundy. It’s tense on the mid-palate and not lacking flavour, its measured density a highlight. Spiced apple, pears, white fleshed stonefruit, a dash of honey and a fine tickle of ginger bread spice muse to get you in the mood. The fruit is imprinted on the palate and refuses to move as a fine white pebble minerality sits in the background. It’s quite delightful, really, particularly if you lean towards considered wines that cause reason to ponder. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I’m sure it will find a horde of folk who will feel the same. Great stuff and well priced. Points: 92/100

Delightfully fruited and elegantly expressed, the wine presents notes of whitefleshed peach, lemon pith, nougat, and flinty nuances on the nose. The palate delivers good weight and silky flow, splendidly supported by refined texture and bright acidity, finishing with a lingering and stylish aftertaste. At its best: now to 2028. Points: 92/100

An AOC Macon Villages by a cooperative of around 80 growers - Les Vignerons d’Ige - this is a delicate Burgundian Chardonnay, with a touch of white florals in the nose, a gentle squeeze of lemon over white nectarine in the palate, unhindered by artifact to allow its easy-going honesty and purity to shine. Points: 92/100

A delightful, light-bodied, beautifully balanced chardonnay. Malolactic fermentation softens acidity and adds texture without overpowering freshness. Lemon zest, juicy apple and white flowers on the nose, with citrusy mineral character through the palate. Seamless and smooth—perfect drinking now. Cellar: 5 years. Points: 92/100
