Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aromas of white flowers and blossom enfold freshly cut peaches and passionfruit.

Palate

On the palate, the fruit and floral notes are bright and expressive, intertwined with hints of preserved lemon and key lime. The wine is fresh, elegant, and textural, with a saline minerality imparted by the river stones that it was grown on.

Vinification

The wine was predominantly fermented in stainless steel to ensure the floral and stonefruit characters remain expressive, while a portion is fermented and aged in oak to add complexity. 13% of the fruit was hand harvested, with individual parcels fermented separately in a combination of stainless steel tanks, French and Austrian oak. After 3 months on lees, it was fined and filterd before bottling.

Vintage Notes

The 2025 vintage began with a warm, dry spring encouraging early vine development and higher yields. A cooler, more overcast summer slowed ripening, preserving delicate aromatics.

Winemakers Comments

Refined and complex, transcending the vibrant style New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is known for. A long ripening season delivers intense citrus and tropical fruit lifted by herbal notes and bright acidity that lead into a mineral- driven, elegant palate. Low yields, partial handpicking and varied fermentation vessels—including stainless steel, French oak, and amphora—bring layered complexity. Over 50 parcels blend to create a wine of remarkable depth—purely reflective of Te Muna’s distinctive terroir.

Many years ago, Craggy Range made the decision to plant their Sauvignon Blanc vineyard on the lower terraces of Te Muna Road in the Martinborough region, as opposed to the more popular Marlborough. It has done them no harm, as it seems that, vintage after vintage, it sits among the very best from New Zealand. The cool climate of this region, more traditionally known for its Pinot Noir, helps imbue the wines with a sense of elegance. Pale lemon with green flecks, the nose is a wonderfully appealing mix of lemon curd, citrus, spices, hints of grapefruit, minerality and a touch of the tropicals, most notably passionfruit. Supple, generous and approachable in style, there is a fine line of acidity adding to the energy and freshness of the wine. Layered and persistent, the flavours come in waves. A cracking Sauvignon Blanc which is already exhibiting a little more complexity than we anticipate with this variety. Enjoy over the next half dozen years. Points: 93/100

Good with its depth and concentration, a slick to texture, a tensile core of lime and saline minerality. Faint tropical fruits, cut grass, cucumber in mineral water, a lash of passionfruit and lemongrass in there, too. Lots of flavour and freshness, is the gist, and the drinkability is set to charm. Points: 93/100

Intense Key lime, lemongrass and pear flavors are fleshy, bright and precise in this white, showing details of tangerine, kiwifruit and grapefruit, with sleek notes of saline and green tea, plus a hint of white pepper on a mouthwatering frame. Drink now. Points: 93/100

A restrained and complex sauvignon blanc with subtle layers of green apple, olive leaf, fresh herbs, tomato stalk and wet stone all seamlessly melding into each other across the mid-weight, dry palate. Clearly still youthful with a fine line of saline acidity running throughout, this will come into its own in the coming months and provide refreshing drinking for a year or two before turning complex and contemplative.  Points: 93/100

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough offers an appealing balance between ripe citrus, elderflower, nettle and flint. It is delicate and aromatic with a long, scented finish. Points: 90/100
