Aroma
Blueberry, mulberry, cassis and blackcurrant aromas are
supported by lifted violet notes, cocoa and cedary spice from the
subtle use of French oak.
Appearance
Bright purple.
Palate
A classic Cabernet Sauvignon palate with blue fruits,
blackcurrant, chocolate and cassis, supported by ripe tannins.
Generous yet well-structured, with freshness and soft tannins,
while subtle oak adds complexity and depth.
Vinification
The fruit was harvested from selected high-density plantings at
our Kyella Vineyard in Wilyabrup, using Houghton, 337 and 191
Cabernet clones. The fruit was destemmed into static
fermenters, with some batches cold-soaked for added
complexity. Pump-overs were conducted twice daily early in
fermentation, then reduced. The wine completed malolactic
fermentation in tank and was matured for 12 months in French
oak barriques (30% new). No fining was required.
Cellaring Potential
5-10 years.
Vintage Notes
Following the warm, dry 2024 vintage, winter arrived late,
with welcome August rainfall replenishing soil moisture and
restoring vine health. A strong nutrition programme,
irrigation and careful vineyard management supported
healthy canopy growth and successful flowering, resulting in
average yields across all varieties. The 2025 vintage featured
a classic Indian summer, with warm days and cool nights
producing vibrant wines of excellent flavour and natural
acidity. Limited Marri blossom led to significant bird
pressure, as silvereyes and other birds sought food in the
vineyards, requiring extensive netting and ongoing
management throughout harvest to protect fruit quality.
Food Matching
Braised beef short ribs with root vegetable purée.
