Tasting Notes

Aroma

Very distinctive in style with characterised remarkably elegant aromas of grapefruit and red fruits (berries and pomegranate).

Appearance

The Fiumeseccu Ros is pale in colour.

Vinification

The grapes are soft crushed into temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with a brief maceration on skins. The wine is bottled young and fresh.

Region Notes

Located 8km from Calvi in Balagne, in the north-west of the island of Corsica, the wine domaine was created in the 1960s by Baron Henry Louis de La Grange, owner of the Convent of Alzipratu. The domaine was run by Maurice Acquaviva before being taken over by his son Pierre and his wife Ccilia, who today are joined by son Marc Andria. The 40 hectare vineyard is composed of several south-facing parcels and is split into two different parts. The first is located north of the convent, near to Zilia, and the second is situated 10 km west of the village of Calenzana, in the upper Figarella valley. The Alzipratu vineyards are planted primarily to traditional Corsican varieties, and lie at the foothills of Monte Grossu (the peak of which is 1950 m.a.s.l.); and just a few minutes from the coast. As a result, the vines benefit from sharply contrasting climatic influences due to their proximity to both the sea and the mountains.

A blend of the local Sciaccarellu and Niellucciu made by Pierre Acuaviva who is reimagining the indigenous wines of Corsica. Here he captures the freshness of red berried fruit like hull strawberries, cranberry and stewed rhubarb by fermenting in stainless steel. There is a raspberry yogurt creaminess on the palate with intensity of orange citrus and a touch of Li Hing Mui spice. Elegant and delicate with long flavour length. This is Rosé for pairing alongside salmon gravlax or equally a shellfish tower and a great view. Points: 92/100

Peach, orange, fennel, redcurrant. Juicy, powdery and chalky with a little citrus tang, yet kind of soft and inviting all the same. A smattering of wild herbs in the mix with a juicy burst on a finish of good length. Has vigour. A lovely thing to drink. I’m into it. Points: 93/100
