Tasting Notes

Palate

Beautiful fresh berry fruit with spices - mulberry flavours finishing with a light toast and delicate velvety tannins. This vintage has a range of firm, deep and rich flavours and very long ageing potential.

Vinification

A 48-hour pre-ferment soak, followed by inoculation and fermentation in fermenters. One pumping over each day during ferment, pressed, and then transfer into French oak for spontaneous malolactic ferment before racking off lees and further barrel maturation.

Vintage Notes

Good average rainfall during winter. September got warm early on during 10 days then cooler weather set in. Bud burst was early. Cooler and windy Southerly slowed down flowering in November and reduced the yield. The increase of the density of the canopy resulted in an increase of workload in the vineyard. January to March were nice and warm , extremely dry with good rain until June. Therefore the quality of the wine is excellent.

Bright magenta/crimson with aromas of juicy dark cherry, blood plum and forest berry fruits cut with hints of spice, charcuterie, mushroom terrine, wildflowers, leaf litter and earth. These aromas transpose over onto the palate, which shows a savoury, powdered-rock tannin profile, leaning savoury and spicy as it trails away. Points: 93/100
