HEAD Wines Old Vine Shiraz 2024

A blend of old-vine shiraz from Ebenezer and Menglers Hill. 10% whole bunch, matured for 11 months in oak, 10% new. Bright magenta/crimson with broody dark plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits with hints of graphite, blackstrap licorice, dark chocolate, vanillin oak, fruitcake, olive tapenade and baking spices. Opulent and lush, with great fruit density, bright acidity and a cloud of pillowy tannin on the exit. Points: 93/100

Ink black core, deep purple tones at the rim. Mulberry, bitumen and crushed violets on the nose. Powerful and intense but with a sense of freshness throughout. Dark berry fruit and plum notes sit in the centre while anise, ironstone and hints of mocha add character and detail. Finely boned tannins carry it long and they tighten the long finish well. Still very youthful and it will reward cellaring. Points: 93/100
