Medium-deep, bright purple-red colour; the aromas are fresh and reserved, dried raspberry, red licorice, violet and fragrant herbs, the fruit doing all the talking. The palate is lean and tensioned, firm and drying with typically forceful nebbiolo tannins that stop short of astringency. Good length. There is serious structure here, which demands hearty protein. Destemmed, whole berries transferred to oak for fermentation, natural yeast, maturation in seasoned French oak. A young nebbiolo in a style that asks – demands – a food accompaniment in the traditional Italian style. It also wouldn't mind further bottle ageing. Naturally high in savoury tannin, the grape shows firm structure against flavours crunchy in cranberry, cherry, pepper, fennel seed and spice. But it's early days. Give it time and a decant if opening soon. Points: 92/100
