Fine spread of tannin here. This is mineral, littered with herb, flower and undergrowth notes, juicy with red cherry flavours and whispered with leather-like notes. It’s good. It’s authentic. There’s very little sign of oak, good ripeness to the fruit, a terrific web of tannin and little sweetness to speak of. The mid palate dips slightly but give it more time and it will flesh out. Points: 93/100

This Heathcote region really does seem to suit this famous Piedmont variety. In particular, one of the features is the management of the tannins, which can often be a little excessive in Australian examples, but in this case, they sit absolutely harmoniously. Yes, there’s some firmness there, but it’s all held together with perfect harmony and just the right balance. The aromas are typical of the variety with loads of crushed red berry florals, a little rose petal, and some slightly minerally ironstone savoury characters. The palate really does capture the Nebbiolo style. The colour is not deep, but there is plenty of power and concentration here delivered with that impeccable elegance and stylishness that marks the best Nebs. A most beautiful example of this variety and so promising for the future in Australia. Points: 96/100

Medium-deep, bright purple-red colour; the aromas are fresh and reserved, dried raspberry, red licorice, violet and fragrant herbs, the fruit doing all the talking. The palate is lean and tensioned, firm and drying with typically forceful nebbiolo tannins that stop short of astringency. Good length. There is serious structure here, which demands hearty protein. Points: 92/100

Destemmed, whole berries transferred to oak for fermentation, natural yeast, maturation in seasoned French oak. A young nebbiolo in a style that asks – demands – a food accompaniment in the traditional Italian style. It also wouldn't mind further bottle ageing. Naturally high in savoury tannin, the grape shows firm structure against flavours crunchy in cranberry, cherry, pepper, fennel seed and spice. But it's early days. Give it time and a decant if opening soon. Points: 92/100
