Tasting Notes

Palate

A vibrant combination of freshly crushed red berries and rose petals. Savoury and delicious, enjoy this refreshing wine in its youth.

Vinification

Hand picked in March, Shiraz 62%, Grenache 28%, Nebbiolo 10% the fruit was whole bunch pressed to old oak for fermentation. Estate bottled just a few months later in June.

Food Matching

A wonderful and versatile partner for a wide range of dishes - try with salumi or grilled meats on the barbeque.

Winemakers Comments

Our sister property in Central Victoria, Heathcote Estate was planted in 1999 on the ancient Cambrian soils that define the heart of the region. The 500-million-year-old soils are integral to the distinctive characters in these special wines. Led by winemaker Tom Carson, our philosophy is to craft wines that speak of the distinct characteristics of Heathcote and more particularly, our own individual site. It’s the attention and care in the vineyard that allows this pure expression of our vineyard and incredible balance in our shiraz. Heathcote Estate is a 100% organically certified and managed vineyard (NASAA certification NCO3056ML1).

    This is made from a combination of largely Shiraz with smaller contributions of Grenache and Nebbiolo from the Heathcote region. It captures so much of modern Australian Rosé, and I suspect that inclusion of about 10% Nebbiolo has introduced that slightly savoury character evident initially on the nose and then certainly profoundly evident on the palate. A mix of red berry and watermelon and a little lift of floral rose petal provide such a wonderful current drinking wine. This is high-class stuff. Points: 94/100
