Founded by Yiannis Boutaris in 1997, and today led by 5th generation Stellios Boutaris, Kir-Yianni makes terroir-driven wines from their two vineyards in Naoussa and Amyndeon in northern Greece. Naoussa, the original vineyard Yiannis planted to the indigenous variety xinomavro in the 1970s, enjoys a Mediterranean climate due to its proximity to the Agean Sea, yielding rich, age-worthy red wines. Amyndeon at 750 m.a.s.l. is the coldest wine growing region of Greece, tempered by four lakes, and producing pale, ethereal red and rosé wines from old-vine xinomavro, plus white and sparkling wines from local varieties such as assyrtiko and roditis.
