Founded in 1994 by Santiago López with his wife Lola Cristóbal, in Roa on the eastern side of the Ribera del Duero DO. The family tradition continues with son Galo managing the 50 hectares of vineyard, planted predominately to Tempranillo. The vineyards are sectioned into nine parcels, each parcel with its own distinct soil type, a combination of calcareous and clay-lime. The Bodegas López Cristóbal Roble 2019 was awarded a Gold Medal in the 2021 Gilbert & Gaillard international competition. Roble in Spanish means oak, and usually means a wine has spent a short, unspecified time in oak – López Cristóbal Roble Tinto spends 3 months in French oak barrels.
