Tasting Notes

Aroma

Dried florals, ripe forest berries, juniper, red berries and an aperol note. Crushed rocks and earthy spice.

Appearance

Bright cherry.

Palate

Medium bodied, red apple tang, bright fruit with sour cherry elements. Lovely savoury, supple tannins, anise and cured meat notes. Florals follow through the palate with plenty of youthful length and verve.

Vintage Notes

The 2024 harvest started with a wet & cool spring, leading into a dry and consistently warm growing season. In these conditions Grenache comes to the fore, revelling in the drier ripening conditions. Another excellent year for Grenache from McLaren Vale, which seems to be in a purple patch at the moment - darling of the consumer, winemaker and viticulturists!

Made in the first year in the new winery (the old Gemtree winery, where they also host a coterie of exciting small producers), this came off three estate blocks, with an average age of 30 years; 10% whole bunch; matured half in steel, with the rest a 4500L cask, older puncheons and a concrete egg. This sits neatly in the grenache zeitgeist, moderately pale in hue, fragrant, fruitful but not overt, with red-fruited appeal, a dusty hint of earth, wafting florals, some spice, a textural, fruitful cushioning and a cleansing but not brisk finish. It's lovely, and fine value. Points: 93/100
