Tasting Notes

Aroma

Nice expressive nose with balsamic notes and sweet spices, whose complexity is then ensured by delicate aromas of blackberries and wild strawberries, mint and violet.

Appearance

Brilliant garnet red turning slightly amber with time.

Palate

The entrance on the palate is striking, solid and compact, followed by a soft and refined structure that transforms towards a more slender and discreet style in the finish, where refined and moderately astringent tannins meet.

Vinification

Fermented in steel and concrete contenitors under strict temperature control (29C-31C), post-fermentation maceration, racked after 22/25 days, decanted, and by maintaining the right temperature malolactic process is induced. Several months of maturation in barrels on oak, thereafter a long period in bottle to complete the aging.

Cellaring Potential

Although easy to interpret, it will be possible to start drinking as early as 2020, it has a good aging capacity that will take it without problems until 2030.

Vintage Notes

The 2018 vintage benefited from a long and rainy winter: temperatures below the average of recent years allowed a slow and gradual vegetative restart of the vine, without spring frosts. Thanks to frequent rainfall and not too high temperatures, flowering and fruit set took place regularly and in optimal climatic conditions, without any thinning.

Cherry, red berries, rose and mint. Medium-bodied, succulent and charming, tannin is gentle but with an ironstone quality (if that makes sense), some orange peel in with bright red fruit, and again ferrous and precise on a finish of excellent length. Light, frisky, but such good bone structure. Excellent. A bit of a Burgundy feel to it, if you don’t mind. 94+ Points: 94/100

Medium full red with tawny and brick-red tints; the bouquet is quite complex in its savoury dried-herb and polished timber way. The wine is medium-full bodied and has a touch of richness with abundant supple, drying, powdery tannins in good harmony with the rest of the wine's components. Good drive and persistence of palate. A wine of serious concentration. It finishes right out and has a satisfying farewell, a finish that lingers long and reverberates for quite a while. Points: 96/100

Fresh berry and citrus notes on the nose, together with leafy aromas. Medium-bodied with a linear start to the palate, followed by a medium build of grainy tannin. A lighter structure this year, but there’s some good focus and drive. Needs time to even out. Try from 2024. Points: 93/100
