Tasting Notes

Aroma

The aromas are pure Nebbiolo - uncluttered and clearly identifiable. Pure red fruits, rose petals, cranberry, pomegranate, campari and lick of wet stone.

Appearance

Mid crimson red in colour.

Palate

The palate is super fine and detailed, firm tannins, pure red fruits and a fine acid line create a compelling wine. It's bright and clean and flows effortlessly across the palate, finishing long and savoury.

Cellaring Potential

This wine will age well in the cellar for many years to come.

Vintage Notes

After the long dry spell through 2019-2020, the 2021 season thankfully started with a nice wet winter, replenishing the water supply and ground water. Spring was mild and uneventful, and the Summer was another relatively mild one, without any serious heat spikes.

Has the typical light colour of nebbiolo that bears no relation to the savoury tannins of the variety, here running through start to finish and positively demanding food, preferably an Italian ragout. This is Heathcote Estate's first release of the variety, though the pomegranate and rose petal aromas are classic. Points: 94/100

Medium brick-red colour, faint tinge of purple at the rim; bouquet is dried flowers and dried herbs, a note of violet, the palate lean and intense, savoury/mellow and the finish is all fine grained, drying but supple tannins. Very attractive nebbiolo, the real thing, dry earth and rusty nails. Excellent. Points: 93/100

Convincing nebbiolo. Tannic as all get-up, in a good way. Undergrowth and cherries, pomegranate and tobacco, decayed roses and mint. It starts off slow but builds towards an impressive finish, and responds very well to air. Most impressive. Points: 93/100
