Tasting Notes

Aroma

A lifted bouquet of ripe nectarine, lemon zest, and wild herbs leads into a vibrant palate.

Palate

White florals, juicy pear, and soft citrus. Elegant and finely structured, this vintage shows purity and poise, with a lingering mineral finish. Delightful now, with the potential to evolve beautifully in bottle.

Vinification

Hand-picked in ideal condition and ripeness between the 2nd - 4th of April. Whole bunch pressed, minimum settling followed by natural fermentation and aged on yeast lees for 10 months during which full malolactic fermentation occured. Bottled: 26th of February 2025.

Vintage Notes

The 23/24 growing season started with some heavy spring rains, before settling down into a drier season than the previous three. Budburst appeared on September 25 and we moved seamlessly into the growing season. Other than some major wind events in early October, the vines progressed favourably and we finished our first round of shoot thinning by October 25. Mother Nature stepped in with a significant frost event on October 27 setting us back ,however we did see a very good flowering and fruit set this year. The frost surely took its toll on our Pinot Noir volume and we will make less this year. Rest assured the quality is outstanding.

Food Matching

Pair beautifully with fresh seafood, we were thinking snapper or pan-seared scallops.

Region Notes

This wine is from our BioGro certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic estate vineyard located in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The vineyard was planted in 1998 after careful site selection. The soils on the beautiful north facing slope are Waenga fine sandy loam and Letts steepland soil with an elevation of 217 - 264 metres, on 44.55° south.

Light straw in the glass with aromas of pear, lemon and nectarine with hints of crushed stone, crème fraîche, almond meal, fresh and pressed wildflowers, soft spice and a distant suggestion of lanolin and lavender. Dry, with expressive pear and nectarine fruits and a touch of lemon zest and cream. This has a precise line with a lovely stony, savoury sense of travel. Points: 93/100

Savoury and complex; crisp apple and pear fruit layered with crème fraîche, almond and honey. The palate builds in intensity so whilst there is plenty of flavour, the thread of mineral acidity keeps everything tightly bound together. Could be drunk now but better with a couple of years in bottle to be at its best. Points: 95/100
