Such a shift in style for the Rising Chardonnay, which is always such a thoughtful and refined style. It’s rounder, with more toast, butterscotch and width in 2024 – a surprising blunt instrument, and the oak adds another layer of richness. It’s a singular and curious wine, but it has depth (hence the silver medal score). Points: 91/100

Whole-bunch pressed to a mix of French barriques, hogsheads and puncheon (25% new). A light, bright green gold. There's lot to like from the first whiff with its discreet aromas of just-ripened orchard fruits, white flowers and just a little flint. The palate is both flavoursome and fine boned and the finish is saline and long. That it will age nicely over the next three to four years is a bonus. Points: 95/100

Classy stuff here. Plush and juicy with some sweet spice on preserved lemon, just-ripe pineapple, nectarine and peachy fruitiness. Slips around the palate nicely, has a bit of a bite to spice, a sense of judicious oak seasoning and a cool, fresh finish. It glides in its stride, even and moreish and spot on for the bucks. Lots of charm here. Points: 92/100

Yarra Valley Chardonnay is often a very solid bet and that’s certainly the case with the 2024 Rising. It starts with beautiful aromas of lemon, peach, straw, brine and yoghurt, which are youthful and intense. Once you take a nip, the wine shows its true elegance. The palate is salty and bright with a very pleasant mouthfeel, highlighting the ripe fruit and vivid flavours. It’s a great wine for drinking by itself but it also pairs with a huge array of foods, in particular, poultry and cheese. Another solid offering from Rising and winemaker Anthony Fikkers. Points: 93/100

Minerally and focused, with reductive aromas of lemon peel, phosphorous, grapefruit and candied lime zest. The palate is light- to medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a flavor-packed finish. Nicely balanced and well constructed. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Points: 93/100
