Tasting Notes

Aroma

Dark chocolate, berries, raspberry, hints of eucalypt, sage, black pepper, clove, violet, vanilla and liquorice.

Maturation

Aged for 18 months in French oak hogsheads, with 15% new and the remainder in older oak 1-5 years old.

Appearance

Bright crimson with a black core.

Palate

The fruit gracefully unfolds on the palate, revealing the Barossa Valley’s signature textural brilliance as it transitions from robust, pure flavors to a long, velvety finish. This young wine displays remarkable poise, with clean and pristine aromatics. The texture gradually reveals itself, culminating in a late palate that showcases wonderfully soft tannins that linger like a gentle whisper. There’s so much to appreciate here—this is Barossa Valley purity at its finest: precise, persistent, and well-defined.

Vinification

Fermented in five to ten tonne open top fermenters, with regular pump overs (twice daily over entire ferment) to control ferment, extract colour, flavour and tannins. Average time ‘on skins’ was 10 days before the fermented juice was drained to tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place. Bella’s Garden was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Cellaring Potential

This 2022 vintage promises longevity, while it can be enjoyed now, its true potential will unfold with time in a cool cellar.

Range Notes

Fascinated about isolating a wine to its region and wanting to define and showcase the individual characteristics of the best Australian Shiraz growing regions, Two Hands have successfully demonstrated regionality within Australian Shiraz for many years with the Garden Series. Showcasing six wines, each sourced from a premium Shiraz growing region in Australia, all handled identically in terms of vinification and maturation on the Two Hands’ estate winery in Marananga, the Garden Series accurately reflects the soil, climate and other aspects of each unique region.

Region Notes

Bella’s Garden is a blend of our finest Shiraz barrels from across the region. The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, with existing plantings of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre vines that are over 130 years old. Two Hands has produced this wine since the first vintage in 2000 and it has become a favourite among many of our followers and Shiraz lovers everywhere. In 2012 Two Hands was named in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 for the 10th consecutive year, with Bella’s Garden awarded 3rd out of 100.

The colour is deep and bright purple-red; the bouquet has vegetal (whole-bunch?) nuances as well as mixed spice and chocolate touches; pepper, clove and licorice to the fore. Full bodied and rich in the mouth with lashings of supple tannins and very long persistence. Trace of pleasant bitterness in the follow-through. A biggie that will age long-term. Points: 95/100
