Tasting Notes

Aroma

The Chardonnay has orchard stone fruit, grapefruit, citrus blossom, a hint of roasted almond and a lovely flinty note underlying.

Palate

The palate is youthful and intensely concentrated, there is a nice layer of almond meal and cashew nut from the barrel fermentation rounding out the fruit. There are layers of deeply textured and concentrated fruit. White stone fruit and pithy grapefruit weave through a tightly wound and piercingly intense, mineral finish that goes on and on.

Vinification

Handpicked between 20 – 24 February and whole bunch pressed. The juice was transferred to 500 litre French oak barrels for natural fermentation. A 25% portion of which were new. The wines were aged on lees in oak for a further 10 months, prior to estate bottling in late January 2025.

Cellaring Potential

Cellar for at least five years, the wine will go well past 10 years.

Vintage Notes

The 2024 vintage was fine and early with low crops, resulting in finely poised wines.

Still trying to find its groove as it's a bit gangly from youth. Lots of attractive elements at play, the lightest flavours of lemon-lime, grapefruit, melon and white nectarine with a touch of daikon and cedary, spicy oak. Fine lees add a bit more to the tight palate, which is led by refreshing acidity. Come back to this in a year or so for a more cohesive drink. Points: 94/100

This release is taut and needs some extra time in bottle, for sure, but it’s an excellent release and, even now, is impressive. White peach, woodsmoke, citrus rind and blossom characters come edged with mineral, the latter almost tipping into brine and pebble territory. It feels both honed and immaculate, and given time it will blossom beautifully. 94+ Points: 94/100

Aromas of lemon pith, pastry, grapefruit rind, white peaches and a hint of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with bright, focused acidity and a vivid mouthfeel that leads to flavors of white peaches, spices, hazelnuts, flint and lime curd. Mineral-edged with underlying power. Delicious. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Points: 95/100
