Tasting Notes

Aroma

A modern, medium-bodied Australian Shiraz. The nose shows bright red fruits and savoury spice, which follows onto the palate.

Palate

Primary, bright fruits balanced by soft, savoury tannins and a crunchy acidity adds to the wine’s complexity.

Vinification

Fermented in stainless steel open top vats, the fruit was destemmed but not crushed, ensuring as many whole berries as possible were in the fermenter. All blocks were fermented separately and matured in mostly newer large format French Oak (2,700L) and some barriques (225L) until October 2024, when they were blended to create the Estate Grown blend.

Vintage Notes

The 2023 vintage in the Hunter Valley was exceptional and has produced wines with great character and structure.

Winemakers Comments

A premium expression of our iconic Hunter Valley family-owned estate, established in 1858. Small batch blends from some of our iconic, old vine, dry-grown, estate vineyards such as our HVD and Short Flat, all of which are Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) certified. Brought to life by the Tyrrell’s vineyard and winemaking team, who boast over four decades of experience with these vineyards and fruit, tending to the vines and making the wines by hand, focusing on two iconic Hunter Valley varietals: Chardonnay and Shiraz.

Region Notes

Estate Grown Shiraz is a blend from our Short Flat, Weinkeller and NVC Vineyards. These dry grown blocks were planted in 1968, 1970 and 1996.
