Tasting Notes

Aroma

A modern, medium-bodied Australian Shiraz. The nose shows bright red fruits and savoury spice, which follows onto the palate.

Maturation

The wine was then matured in older, large format French oak casks. These 2,700L casks highlight the fruit purity whilst making sure that oak isn’t the dominant character.

Palate

Primary, bright fruits balanced by soft, savoury tannins and a crunchy acidity adds to the wine’s complexity.

Vinification

Our Hunter Valley Shiraz is made to the same high standards that our flagship Vat 9 Shiraz receives. The fruit was destemmed, but not crushed, to ensure as many whole berries as possible made it to the fermenter.

Vintage Notes

The 2024 vintage was one of the earliest on record in the Hunter Valley. A warm, dry growing season, coupled with lower crop levels, produced wines that are full, with intense flavours yet retaining line and length.

Winemakers Comments

An introduction to the key varietals of the Hunter Valley: Semillon, Chardonnay, and Shiraz, designed to drink now. Five generations of winegrowing and winemaking in the Hunter Valley, and over 160 years of vineyard management and winemaking experience culminate to produce a regional benchmark for textbook Hunter Valley wines. Old vine, sustainably grown estate fruit complimented with long-term Hunter Valley grower material, blended, and made to the same exacting standards as our flagship wines.

Region Notes

Hunter Valley Shiraz is sourced from a selection of some of our top blocks on the estate and surrounding area, most of which are dry grown and averaging 40 years in vine age.
